UNESCO investing in Youth

UNESCO Iraq office is joining efforts with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Japanese Government to offer Iraqi youth a unique opportunity that will enable them to guarantee their future through entrepreneurship.

For this occasion, a special event will be organized on Thursday 31 May 2012 in the Ministry of Labour and Social affairs in Erbil to launch the “Fighting Youth Unemployment through Education” project.

The event will be attended by Minister of Labour and Social Affairs (KRG) Asos Najib Abdullah, Minister of Culture and Youth (KRG) Kawa Mahmoud Shakir, the Governor of the city of Erbil Nawzad Hadi, a representative from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNESCO Iraq Director Mohamed Djelid and senior staff, other UN agencies representatives, in addition to members from the public and private sectors, and national and international NGOs.

Media and press agencies are invited to attend this launching event.

Social networking, mobile telephony, internet and citizen journalism

Very soon series of workshops and insensitive training courses will come to the shine in 3 different parts of Iraq Basra, Baghdad and Erbil and it will be great that I am the trainer which I been chosen by UNESCO and Internews and the main subject will be about “Social networking, mobile telephony, internet and citizen journalism” which will focus too much on how to use the social media tools in citizen journalism as well as in the elections.

The telephony and internet tactics will focus on training 60 journalists in 3 different regions in Iraq and creating a very big network of bloggers and online journalists.

I just travelled to the USA on Saturday 11th 2011 via Amman-Jordan and staying for one night transit in Golden Tulips hotel and then catching a flight for 12 hours to new York and staying in transit in JFK airport waiting to fly to DC for 2 hours , so finally I arrived and stayed in the Georgetown suites hotel , and it was really hard day because I spent 28 hours in flying and transit in the airports , so at the morning it was really shock for me because I found my facebook friends and bloggers from different countries around the world (Morocco, Bahrain,Egypt,Oman,Armenia, Portugal, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Palestine, Iran, Afghanistan, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya , Yemen, China, south Korea …ect) and actually we started introducing each other and what a great quick friendship had been created and then we started visiting the states and introducing to the American bloggers and journalists as well as visiting newsum which was down town DC , then the panels of discussions had started in the FPC and my pannel was to talk about the actuality of new media and blogging in the middle east and then I met Wael Abbas the Egyptian blogger who was very friendly and we talked a lot about the political situations of the

We packaged the luggages and catching a bus to Regan National airport to fly to Atlanta in 2 hours and then changing plane for another couple hours for Minneapolis-Minnesota to attend the political and social blogging tour at Minnesota University , school of journalism and it was really good day because we met the student and post graduated students of new Media and again my panel was about the new media of Iraq.

We are now preparing our self for the conference of Netroots Nations which the people , bloggers and other are coming all over the world , so I will be of the presenters in the channels in the both Arabic and English.

Media Law in Iraq & the region Rapid Changes\ New Challanges

IREX & IWPR had organized a conference in Erbil \ Erbil rotana Hotel between 4& of Feb 2011 about ” Media Law in Iraq and the Region rapid changes\ New challanges , and the attendets are from different levels starting from Journalists , correspondents, Social activists and PM members and I been invited as a social Network activist and blogger and main duty was to lead a team of tweeterers on #iraqemedia , but later on I been shocked when they asked me to present in front of the attendents on the stage and I have to talk about the “Role of social networks & blogging in the rapid changes of Tunisia, Egypt and Iraq” and believe it was very difficult moments because I had to prepare myself for presentation within 30 minutes and I have to be ready for receiving questions and providing diplomatic replies because I will stand in front of 120 Journalists, Law makers and PM members, but finally I got my chance to talk , present and reply

ارتفاع عدد المستخدمين العرب لفيسبوك 78 بالمئة في 2010

أفاد التقرير الأول حول الإعلام الاجتماعي في العالم العربي، والذي أصدرته كلية دبي للإدارة الحكومية بأن مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي مثل "فيسبوك" و"تويتر"، ستواصل لعب دورها الهام في تنظيم الحراك الاجتماعي في العالم العربي، وخاصة لدى شريحة الشباب. وحسب التقرير، فقد ارتفع العدد الإجمالي لمستخدمي موقع فيسبوك في العالم العربي بنسبة 78 بالمئة من 11.9 مليون مستخدم في يناير/كانون الثاني 2010 إلى 21.3 مليون مستخدم في ديسمبر/كانون الأول من العام نفسه،

علماً أن الشباب يشكلون 75 بالمئة من مستخدمي هذا الموقع في البلدان العربية. وأظهر بيان صحافي تلقته وكالة رويترز، أن دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة جاءت في المرتبة الأولى بين دول العالم العربي من حيث استخدام موقع فيسبوك، إذ إن 45 بالمئة من سكانها لديهم حسابات على الموقع، كما حلّت الإمارات بين أفضل 10 دول في العالم استخداما للموقع من حيث عدد السكان. وقال فادي سالم مدير برنامج الحوكمة والابتكار في كلية دبي للإدارة الحكومية "أكدت الأحداث التي شهدتها كل من تونس ومصر على قوة وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي في تنظيم الحركات الاجتماعية في العالم العربي. وأضاف سالم أن هذه المواقع استطاعت الوصول إلى شريحة جماهيرية واسعة من الشباب في عدد من بلدان العالم العربي حيث أن 225 مليونا من العرب هم تحت سن الثلاثين، وأصبحوا قادرين على الاستفادة من هذه المنصات في جميع جوانب حياتهم.
